The creators of the Knights of the Old Republic RPGs have moved on to another science fiction universe in Mass Effect.
Players will fill the shoes of Commander Shepard of the galactic ship the SS Normandy, taking their crew across space to visit uncharted planets and stop a renegade agent from plunging the galaxy into chaos.
Commander Shepard is created by the player (as either a man or woman) with chosen a personality background and physical appearance, but the choices that Shepard makes in his quest are entirely up to them. Players can use a dynamic conversation system to react to other characters as they see fit.
The typical turn-based combat of these RPGs has been replaced with a more friendly real-time combat system, but still lets players issue commands of play strategically if they choose.
The entire galaxy is open for Shepard to discover, and uncharted worlds can be visited and explored from system to system.
Mass Effect is an engrossing and action-heavy role playing title, but the deep storyline and compelling characters give the title a convincing edge.
Players will need to make tough and life-altering choices throughout their journey to succeed.
